Is your business making the most of the Back to School market?

Is your business making the most of the Back to School market?

Back to School promotions are no longer just for stationers and uniform shops. Could your business better capitalise on the Back to School trade?

Retailers of all types have been successfully running Back to School marketing campaigns for many years. Each year we notice the types of businesses making the most of new term custom become more diverse. Over the years we’ve helped a range of businesses with:

  • Printed and digital brochures and catalogues
  • Flyers and e-mailers
  • Digital and print advertising
  • Signage and point-of-sale promotions
  • Special branded gifts and clothing
  • …and beyond!

Businesses with obvious appeal to parents of school-age children and students include

  • Sports outlets and websites
  • High street and online book sellers
  • High street and online generalist retailers
  • Bars and cafes offering student deals
  • Homeware and cookware shops

The last one on this list would have obvious appeal to parents wanting to kit-out children who are going off to University, but less obviously may also appeal to parents wanting to declutter and organise their homes now that the summer break is over …

“Parentpreneurs”

In fact, the ‘new term, new start’ mindset is a major factor in marketing. With the trend for better life-work balance continuing and job security dwindling, many parents are taking control by setting up their own businesses. The new term may mean the start of a new venture or the right time to expand an existing business. We can (obviously!) help parents themselves with their own promotions but this is also a great time for brand consultants, business coaches, life coaches and mentors to promote their services to parentpreneurs. We have a lot of experience in this field and would love to help you.

New Term, new me

Other parents may want to work on self-improvement after the summer or simply enjoy a well-deserved kid-free treat. Just a few of the industries that could capitalise on this – and that we have experience of working with – include

  • Personal trainers and coaches
  • Gyms and spas
  • Beauty and wellbeing
  • Eateries (offering healthy options or perhaps just indulgent treats after the school run)

Treat the teachers!

And finally, what about those terrific teachers? If anyone deserves a discount, surely it’s them. Whilst it’s easy to think of teachers as simply ceasing to exist outside of school hours (and given their increasing workload perhaps they occasionally feel that way too), the reality is they use all the same services as everyone else. We often acknowledge teachers at the end of term, but perhaps a discount or two would go down well when they have the rather daunting prospect of an entire school year facing them?
