Eateries: This #PancakeDay why not *mix-up* your marketing with these *key ingredients*? (may contain traces of puns)

Remember the days when people went out to eat and didn’t post a picture of their food on social media? Nope – neither can we. There’s nothing quite like a national ‘food’ day to get the cameras snapping and the hashtags trending. And there’s nothing like that to achieve some lovely free publicity for eateries.  Many of the restaurants, pubs, bars, cafes and hotels that we work with are capitalising on this with some great success stories. So how can you *mix things up* and get in on the action?

Here’s our *recipe* for success:

  • *Eggcellent* planning. Think there aren’t many national food days? Think again. Check out this jaw-dropping list of national food days. Many of these will trend on social media. As eateries become more savvy about linking their marketing to trending national food days, this will only self-perpetuate. Add to that the amount of food-related TV programmes which regularly trend on social media – as well as the popularity of home-cooking – and you’ve got plenty of opportunities to capitalise on.
  • 1 *cracking* design team. Whether it’s inviting customers to design their own pizzas at your premises on #worldpizzaday or giving away free puddings on #InternationalStickyToffeePuddingDay (we are not making any of these up), you will want to let people know about it in advance. We can create printed flyers or special menus for you, branded mailers, signage and props to encourage customers to take pictures on the day or images and banners for your social media.
  • *Mix well*. Many businesses treat traditional marketing materials and social media as separate entities. But actually, the most successful campaigns mix these together. Your printed flyers, special menus and posters can reach people who aren’t yet following you on Twitter and encourage them to do so, while your social media campaign can convert followers to footfall.
  •  
  • *Marinate*. Some people may be able to drop-in on the day but most people are busy and will need to plan their visit. Make sure you let people know early what you are doing and keep reminding them. There’s a lot of noise on Twitter in particular so it’s no place for the shy and retiring. Every message should encourage them to tweet or post on social media about their experience, use the appropriate hashtags and mention you.
  • *Season to taste*. Because these campaigns and short-lived and affordable (we generally save people up to a third on their current design and print spend), you can measure and monitor your successes so that you can keep improving on them each time.
  • *Enjoy*. Once you’ve got the *recipe* just right, you can enjoy watching footfall and social media engagement increase.
