Has 2018 been as action-packed for you as it has for us? We loved working with you this year and want to thank all our friends and contacts for their ongoing support. As most of you will know, it’s never been easy to start a business and it’s even harder to keep a new business going but we continue to grow thanks to you. Marcomedia will celebrate its ninth birthday this January. We can’t believe the sheer range of design, print and web projects we’ve put out in that time. And we are grateful to all of you – whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or have only just discovered us. We thought we’d reflect on some of our highlights of 2018 and plans for 2019 – and we would love to hear yours too!
Championing local businesses
2018 was the year that our MD, Surinder, was elected to the Executive Council for Newham Chamber of Commerce. This followed Marcomedia being an active member of Newham Chamber and culminated in us being very excited to rebrand the Newham Business Awards. As a team, we have increased our local networking so that we can help other independent businesses, attending well-established groups such as Chigwell Business Group and Business Junction and one-off events. But sometimes local becomes global: our work with international brand and neighbour Good Hotel continued with an innovative eco-project to help clean up our Royal Docks area and the oceans beyond.
Big brands and creative agencies
Our ‘third party’ work for creative agencies and marketing professionals continues to increase, with many large agencies opting to outsource their design, print and web to us thanks to the quality of our work, our trade prices and reputation for reliability. This enables them to take on more work or invest more time in their own marketing. Because discretion and confidentiality is key, we’ve worked with some big brands this year that we can’t tell you about! However, we were very pleased to be able to announce that we worked with one of the world’s largest confectionary companies, Perfetti Van Melle.
Proud to support
2018 was the year that the NHS celebrated its 70th birthday. From its beginnings Marcomedia has been proud to support the NHS, as Surinder spent many years working in Public Health Communications prior to establishing Marcomedia. We’ve also been proud to supply design, print and web to local and international charities both in 2018 and over the years. This winter, Surinder raised money for Little Havens Children’s Hospice by taking part in Movember and we are also championing the work of Seva Street which sees local volunteers helping people facing homelessness in our area.
Trend-setting and future plans
As always, we were happy to have hopefully inspired you with tips on the trending styles and colours for 2018 but we were also pleased to be an early predictor of print making a comeback. 2018 was the year that design and print became more conscious and political, fully understanding its role in changing the world. We also discovered we were trend-setting by leading the way in terms of both equal pay and the diversity of our team.
We are already working on projects well into 2019 and have many plans for the future. We intend to increase our work with creative agencies and marketing professionals, as well as making sure the sectors we specialise in know just how much we can do for them.
