Although Fairtrade products are available all year round, Fairtrade Fortnight aims to raise awareness of Fairtrade to encourage more consumers to make ethical choices when shopping. Many retailers and supermarkets will have special Fairtrade displays and promotions and this blog provides inspiration for any businesses wanting to do their bit to support this important campaign.
What is Fairtrade Fortnight?
Unfortunately, millions of the farmers and workers that grow many of the foods we enjoy do not earn enough to feed their families. The Fairtrade organisation works directly with farmers and workers around the world to ensure that they are not exploited, that trade deals are fair and that they have control over their lives and livelihoods. There are over 10,000 local Fairtrade campaigning groups across the UK.
Fairtrade Fortnight runs from 26th February – 11th March 2018. The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘come on in to Fairtrade’ and will be offering people the chance to see the lives of farmers and workers affected.
Who can get involved?
If you’re an individual, you can get involved simply by looking for the Fairtrade mark when you buy products. To help raise awareness, Fairtrade are encouraging people to make their snacks Fairtrade throughout the fortnight and post about them on social media using the hashtag #FAIRTRADEFORTNIGHT
Fairtrade Fortnight can be supported by businesses, schools and community groups by both helping to raise awareness of it through events or via social media, and also by making Fairtrade choices when it comes to supplies and suppliers.
How can we get involved?
There are a wealth of resources on the Fairtrade website including assets for social media and downloadable posters which you can access here.
