Coastal calm
According to this article, at a fashion trade show in Las Vegas, Laurie Pressman, VP of the Pantone Colour Institute, exclusively revealed that the colours of 2020 were going to be inspired by the sea. The Colour of the Year for 2019 was ‘living coral’ – a vibrant shade that felt fun and tropical so you may think that 2020’s colour would have a similar feel. Dulux Colour of the Year
In fact, Dulux’s Colour of the Year is ‘Tranquil Dawn’ a ‘versatile shade of green inspired by the morning sky’. But its palette includes greys, blues and browns, giving it a cool coastal feel too.
Pantone’s colour of the year often reflects what is happening in wider society – in 2018 it was ‘ultra-violet’, a ‘visionary’ colour ‘associated with counter-culture’ in particular ‘icons such as Prince and David Bowie.’ 2020 is set to be a politically turbulent year so it would make sense to balance that with a more calming tone. Caring for the ocean is also high on everyone’s agenda which would tie in with an oceanic theme.
Behr Colour of the Year
US and Canadian decorative paint brand, Behr has announced its 2020 colour of the year to be a light green called ‘Back to Nature’, continuing this theme of looking to nature for calmer tones.
