The data day: how data can make or break you in 2019

GDPR, AI, smartphones, smart meters, GPS, social media and doing virtually everything online: it feels like we have never had so much access to peoples’ data or so many conversations about what to do with it once we get it. One thing is for sure, data is no longer something that can be ignored nor is it a technical, back-room activity. Whether commercial or public sector, all organisations must be data-led in order to thrive and survive. But how does this relate to your design, print and web campaigns…?

Data dictator?

Hopefully by now you’ve negotiated the intricacies of GDPR, but once you’ve legitimately captured peoples’ data, what to do with it? Using data intelligently can dictate the success of campaigns of any size – from the sole trader sending out targeted emailer campaigns to the large ecommerce brand pursuing purchasers across multiple channels. Whilst we generally capture data digitally, we can easily migrate data-led customer insight to printed campaigns. Abandoned baskets on our websites, can become targeted discount flyers or personalised brochures. And it’s just as important to capture sales data to dictate future marketing activity.

Data creator

In this inspiring article for South African magazine, Biz Community, Charl Van Rooyen makes the case for data being creativity’s ally rather than its opposite. He says that, although, “Data is rational, creativity seems irrational; data is knowledge, and creativity is a product of imagination,” data can actually drive creativity. It can help us to connect with, not just the right people, but the right people in the right moment so that we can deliver more powerful, emotive campaigns than ever before. Whether you are connecting with people via social media, online, in print or even on billboards, we have the experience to help you.

Data for later

The way that we gather and interpret data is one of the most rapidly evolving factors in how organisations are run in 2019. Big data and AI are arguably still in their infancy when it comes to marketing but as more and more organisations become interested in harnessing the power of data, this looks to advance rapidly. Whether you are an SME or a local authority, we can all benefit from better use of data to increase our sales or improve our communications.
