The UK’s top 40 brands: Which are your favourites?

Hello pop-pickers! This week we have a Top 40 with a difference – instead of your favourite hits, Avery UK have published a list of our nation’s 40 favourite brands, as reported on the Business Advice website. We recently wrote this blog about memorable branding which was inspired by a video of children identifying logos. Avery UK’s study reached similar conclusions but is less cute and more scientific. Testing your loyalty

Avery surveyed 2000 adults in the UK and found that branding was so significantly linked to purchasing-decisions, that

  • 50% felt familiar branding encouraged them to trust a product more
  • 30% would only buy from brands that they were familiar with
  • 20% would spend more on branded products even when non-branded products were cheaper

Don’t lock your branding in your stationary cupboard

One of the things that helps to cement brands like Coca-Cola as iconic, is its appearance on clothing and homeware. As well as design, print and web, we have helped establish brands by supplying branded items such as clothing, tote bags, pens, gifts and giveaways.

Top of the Pops?

Perhaps not surprisingly, the iconic red and white typographic logo of Coca-Cola was the nation’s favourite brand. This was closely followed by McDonalds, Mickey Mouse, Cadbury and Apple. All the Top 40 logos had various elements in common. In the words of Fiona Mills, Avery Marketing Director, these were:

“When the highest-performing label design elements combine, such as handwritten fonts, bold colours and shapes, emotion and use of heuristics (the brain’s mental decision-making shortcuts), the results can be extremely powerful.”
