As we enter the last quarter of 2018, organisations are busy making plans for 2019. We’re hoping that many of those plans will include a new logo, a brand redesign or refresh. Of course, we live and breathe design, print and web but a new book from Taschen, which examines graphic design from the ‘60s to the present, demonstrates how much we are all influenced by graphic design every day…
The History of Graphic Design
The book, entitled The History of Graphic Design Vol. 2 isn’t just about commercial graphic design. While it covers corporate branding and well-known logos, it also contains designs from popular culture, such as magazines, album covers and film posters, through to road signs and subway maps. In the words of its creators, it can be read as both a “graphic design bible or a history book.”
Design for life
Looked at this way, design is likely to be influencing everything you do. From consumer choices like the clothes you wear and the car you have, to practical things such as your ability to get around thanks to well-designed signage, maps or even sat-nav graphics.
Life influences design and design influences life
We’ve written before about how fashion influences the design, logos and websites we produce for our clients. We know how important it is that your brand looks current and fresh, but we also know that trends can change quickly. We make it our business to design in a future-proof way so that your organisation looks as good as possible for as long as possible. But we are also keen that our designs reflect your preferences and personality. The book illustrates that this is also the case for wider culture: iconic campaigns and magazine covers often shape society while trends and fashions often reflect it.
Be part of history!
We love helping organisations create iconic branding and marketing. That’s because we live and breathe design, print and web. But hopefully this new book will help you see that you do too! Whether you work for a public sector or commercial organisation, and whether you are an established corporate or a sole trader that’s just starting out – we always aim to create design, print and web with the wow-factor that will be remembered for the right reasons. And we always aim to save our clients money in the process.
