Probably much like you, we entered this year braced for the unexpected but ready to adapt. So, ending the year with two fantastic events is a cause for celebration in itself, but particularly when both events celebrated local achievements despite challenging times…
The Newham Business Awards 2021
The business community in our borough of Newham means so much to us and we have a long history of supporting the Newham Business Awards. Our founder, Surinder, is part of the Newham Chamber’s Executive Council and in 2018 we coordinated the rebrand of the Newham Business Awards resulting in it involving even more local businesses. Surinder was raised in Newham, Marcomedia HQ is based here and we have always networked locally so we know that the Newham Business Community is thriving and full of talent. The Newham Business Awards celebrates that and is open to businesses that are not only based in Newham but also work with the people of Newham.
A magical evening
We were the proud sponsors of the E-Business of the Year award and the finalists certainly gave the judges a tough job of choosing a winner. Promo2u, IC Training Centre and PureJewels by Bhanji Gokaldas were all incredibly worthy finalists and the award went to IC Training Centre for their work-based training that’s been helping people on the path to their chosen careers for over ten years. It was also lovely to see our Expressway neighbour and client Anna Fiorentini of Anna Fiorentini Performing Arts School nominated for Business Person of the Year!

The night itself saw local businesspeople getting together in their finery to celebrate thriving – or perhaps just surviving – a challenging couple of years. The Rt. Honourable Stephen Timms gave an amazing speech and entertainment included singer Tony Roberts as well as magician James Phelan who managed to get Surinder up on stage to help make some magic moments happen.
Newham College Shining Stars Awards
We’ve worked with Newham College for many years and we absolutely love their Shining Stars Awards night which celebrates the achievements of students throughout the year. We’ve always been proud to support the annual event with branding and branded materials and this year we sponsored the Student of the Year Award which went to Ishrath Ahmed.
As always, the night was attended by celebrities with links to the college, such as Dame Zandra Rhodes and Chris Evangelou as well as the local business community. The event is also a fundraiser for the Learning Revolution Trust which helps young people facing economic or social barriers to education. Newham college summed up our feelings on the event in their blog, “This year’s awards were particularly special due to the additional adversity which many have faced through a most difficult year. It is a testament to the dedication and the resilience of our students that they have succeeded and achieved their goals throughout this period.”
