Summer is here and that can only mean one thing – it’s the Join the Docks Festival in our Royal Docks ‘hood! And you won’t believe the whirlpool of events the organisers have got lined-up this year…
Join the Docks
Join the Docks is a festival of activities and events for everyone, established to help connect neighbours, Londoners and the communities that make up Newham and East London. The Royal Docks Team is a join initiative by The Mayor of London and The Mayor of Newham, bringing in various agencies and making the most of The Royal Docks – one of the most exciting areas of regeneration in the UK – and we are proud that Marco HQ is a part of it!
Waves of inspiration
You can get creative with Print on the Docks on 17th August, and create your own tote bag or t-shirt design, or get involved with the arts and crafts down at the Ferry Festival – a festival for the people by the people! Perhaps the most inspiring thing about our neighbourhood is its stories encompassing all the communities that have lived here and the many guises the docks have gone through over the generations. Voices of the Docks is a walking tour which brings the docks to life through the voices of people integral to its history. For younger story fans, there will be Nautical storytelling 28th and 29th August – ahar me hearties!
Water way to have a good time!
We are sailing … and swimming, and splashing, and kayaking, and paddle-boarding – you name it, it’s happening at the Royal Docks. There’s the London Triathlon for seasoned athletes or the National Park City Splash, London’s first multi-site outdoor swimming and paddle sports event where you can try kayaking, bell boating, stand-up paddleboarding or rowing for free! 29th July to 26th August kids can get a real taste of the outdoors by trying open water swimming lessons.
Make a water wish
The festival culminates with Wishful on 28th September 2019. Described as a ‘magical spectacle of water and light’, Wishful includes giant gliding swans, an operatic moon goddess and fireworks. You can contribute to this spectacular by taking part in the Wishful Lantern Workshops and watch your work of art float along with the procession.
