Our last blog on 2019 design trends got a surprising amount of interest from our contacts. There are so many design trends emerging in 2019 we felt we had enough material for a second blog on this topic. All the epics have a sequel so here’s ours – the Marcomedia Guide to Graphic Design in 2019: part two (The Revenge!).
From furnishings to films, art deco is everywhere in 2019. The aesthetics of this era have been gathering popularity for a while now so it makes sense that this would also be the case for design and branding. In a departure from retro-simplified logos, art deco design is elaborate and glamorous. This style works brilliantly for luxury or hospitality brands.
Examples: Chrysler and The Savoy
Colour that fades from one shade to another is a trend that we anticipate seeing on all types of digital and printed marketing throughout 2019 – from business cards to brochures, websites to photography. This is a simple way to create interest and engagement with a brand and can be used to striking effect.
Over the last few years our understanding of the power of typography has increased so it makes sense that 2019 will be all about typography and typographic logos. Cut-out and overlaid typography, bright and loud typography, big and small typography, elaborate typography, hand-written typography, grid typography – you name it, if it involves letters, designers will be doing something interesting with it in 2019.

Real stock imagery
The need for stock imagery continues. We like visuals but few of us have the time or budget for a professional photographer every time we output design, print or web. However, the ‘posed meeting’ images are becoming less popular. These days, the trend is for imagery that feels authentic, whether that’s by clever use of more abstract images or a mixture of original and stock photos.
Example: Power Cleaning Group
Hopefully that’s given you plenty of inspiration for making your brand look its best in 2019. But we also have many more design, print and web tricks up our sleeves for the year ahead!
