You may already know that being part of the Newham Borough means a lot to us. From being residents ourselves, to developing the skills and talent of local people, to our founder recently being elected to join the Executive Council for Newham Chamber of Commerce. The Newham Business Awards are an important date in our local business community’s calendar, so, when we got the opportunity to be the official media sponsor and supplier for this prestigious event, we jumped at the chance!
Our aim was to brand the event in a way that felt current and relevant to the local business community.
Our first task was to change the name of the event from The Newham Chamber Business of the Year Awards to simply Newham Business Awards to make it snappier and easier to engage with. From there, we began looking at how we could create a fresher brand that would work in multiple formats for both pre-event publicity and the event itself …
The design, print and web:
We wanted to create a design that felt authentic and easy for local businesses to relate to, but that was also prestigious and aspirational. We used real images of previous award ceremonies in a ‘spotlight’ graphic to create a ‘real’ but also ‘red carpet’ feel. We also added the strapline Celebrating excellence across all sectors in Newham to show that the event was local and inclusive to all organisations.
We then used the branding on multiple formats both prior to the event and at the event itself. These included
- Social media banners
- Pre-event emailers
- Booklets detailing the event programme for all attendees
- Certificates for winners to display in their premises
- Media backdrops on the night itself
- Pull-up banners
- Fun Instagram cut-outs for selfies and post-event social media publicity
The new brand caused quite a buzz among the local community and reached new businesses that had not previously been aware of the event. Organisers received more pre-event enquiries than in previous years and the branding came together brilliantly on the night itself. We were very proud to receive compliments from organisers and attendees alike both in person and on social media in the following days!
