The World Illustration Awards
The World Illustration Awards are the most prestigious annual juried competition open to illustrators from all over the world. They are run by the Association of Illustrators and began in 1975 as a competition for British illustrators called ‘Images’. Since then the awards have attracted more and more entrants and become the global phenomenon they are today. There are six categories
- Advertising
- Books
- Children’s books
- Design
- Editorial
- Experimental
- Research
- Site specific (e.g., large format for buildings or public displays)
The Shortlist
This year there were nearly 4000 entries from illustrators all over the world. Some were animated, some were introspective, many were political and others were just plain fun. The beauty and timeless appeal of illustration as a medium is its versatility and accessibility – whilst also being completely unique. It works brilliantly for brands that are fun, innovative, inclusive, creative or just want to stand out.
Everyone’s a winner
All the shortlisted works will be on display in a special, free exhibition at Somerset House from 11-28th July 2019. We would definitely recommend you pop in for some inspiration. However, you don’t have to wait as there are always works of art on display at the Marco HQ studios …
